  B.Ed admissions 2011 : Punjab and Chandigarh
   
In the recently announced annual B.Ed. Results of PU Chandigarh for the session 2010-11, all our students have secured 1st position in their course. B.Ed. Student Parminderjeet Kaur secured first position in the college by obtaining 875 marks out of 1100 (79.54%) , Sheenam Grover secured 2nd position in the college by obtaining 868 marks out of 1100 (78.90%) and Ashima secured 3rd position in the college 864 marks out of 1100 (78.54%).
B.Ed student Rajni Sachdeva (session 2010-11) got second position in All-India Dharam Shiksha Examination organized by DAVCMC, New Delhi.

  INSTRUCTIONS FOR SHIFTING/SECOND COUNSELING (FOR STUDENTS)
Choice Filling is permissible to those candidates only who have not filled choices so far.
Those who have already been admitted in first counseling shall be allowed to opt for upward movement as a process of shifting. In case you do not get seat in upward movement according to your merit, you will not be offered any new seat.
Those who could not deposit fee in earlier allocation will be eligible to move upward only, if they opt for shifting/movement. However, seat will not be allocated in the same college in which they were allocated seat in first online counseling presuming that they are not interested in that college.
If you are already admitted in a college and wish to avail this upward movement in shifting you are required to AGREE FOR SHIFTING (online option available) till 25th August 2011. If you DO NOT AGREE for shifting you will not be considered for upward movement and it will be assumed that you are satisfied with your admission.
If you are not yet admitted/allocated any seat, you will be automatically considered for second counseling.
Shifting is permissible only ONCE.
All candidates agreeing for shifting shall have to surrender Rs. 1000/- to the college where they were earlier admitted.
NO Addition/change will be allowed in Pool, Quota, Category, Rural Weightage and any other claim made by any candidate in the First Counseling.
It is in the interest of students that correct subject combination and college are filled up and each student should exercise maximum number of preferences.
If any student fills up wrong choices of subjects he/she will not be allowed to deposit fee by the college.

To ensure and encourage holistic development of its pupil teachers, the college has the provision of forming various societies, clubs and associations. Every association organizes different activities during the session as planned in the activity calendar.
     Youth Service Club
  In charges- Ms. Amandeep Kaur, Mr. Ajay Khosla and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur
  The youth service club is entrusted to organize various cultural activities during the academic session. The YSC is also given responsibility to guide college students to participate in the Panjab University Zonal and Inter Zonal Youth Festivals. In the academic session 2009-2010, YSC organized various activities which are as under:
 
YSC celebrated ‘Teachers Day’ on 5th September, 2010 in which floral tribute was paid to the great philosopher and thinker Dr.S.Radhakrishnan. Pupil teachers delivered speeches on the life philosophy and vision of Dr.S.Radhakrishnan.
 
In the Panjab University Zonal Youth Festival held in Dev Samaj College of Education Ferozepur, the college secured first position in prize tally by winning 30 prizes which include a whopping Seventeen 1st prizes. It is a matter of great elation and proud that the college topped the zone for 2nd consecutive year.

In the Panjab University Inter Zonal Youth Festival held in Guru Nanak National College Doraha, the college got six prizes in different events.
 
YSC organized a talk on ‘Human Values’ by Sh. Mohan Lal Ji (Secretary, DAVCMC) on 29-10-2010.
 
On the occasion of ‘World Disability Day’, a seminar was organized by YSC in collaboration with Bar Association, Abohar. The seminar was well attended by various legal luminaries of the area, faculty members of the college and pupil teachers. Sh. Mohit Bansal (Civil Judge, Junior Division, Abohar) was the chief guest on this occasion.
 
YSC celebrated Basant Panchmi on 09-02-2011 in the college premises. Various competitions like Basant Khan Paan, Kite Making, Kite Flying, Flower arrangement were organized in this event. Sh. Jasdeep Singh Aulakh (SDM, Abohar) was the chief guest of the function.
 
YSC organized an extension lecture by Sh. R.K.Chauhan (Regional Director, DAV Schools, Patna Zone) in which Sh. Chauhan threw light on Life philosophy of Sh. N.D.Grover. The present opportunities and challenges before teacher education were also discussed in this extension lecture.
 
YSC and Punjabi Sahit Sabha celebrated International Women Day on 8th March, 2011 in collaboration with Punjabi Sabhyacharak Manch, Abohar in which 101 women from various fields were honoured as a mark of respect for their contribution towards society.
 
     National Service Scheme (NSS)

  The college has NSS unit strength of 200 which include both male and female students. The unit organizes one day as well as 10 days camps. Apart from these camps, the unit also organizes various social awareness campaigns to bring necessary awareness among the general masses. In the academic session 2009-2010, NSS organized various activities which are as under:
 
To celebrate NSS day, the NSS unit of the college organized NSS camp on 24-09-2010.
 
The NSS unit of the college conducted a social survey to diagnose social problems prevailing in Abohar area. 220 students participated in the survey.
 
The NSS unit of the college observed Global Hand washing Day on 15-10-2010. NSS volunteers made the public aware about the importance of hand washing and cleanliness.
 
The NSS unit of the college organized Blood Donation Camp on 28-10-2010 in which 30 B.Ed students donated blood. The organization of Blood Donation Camps is a regular feature of the college.
 
A slogan writing competition was organized by NSS Unit on the occasion of ‘World Aids Day’ on 01-12-2010 with an objective to create awareness among pupil teachers.
 
     SPORTS

The college has created a niche for itself through splendid achievement in sports. The college students have won various positions in Punjab university inter college sporting events. The various activities and achievements in sports are:

 
In the Panjab University Athletic Meet, the college students won 18 prizes.
 
The in charge of Sports Ms. Simple Kamboj participated in the All India Cross Country Competition organized at Pantnagar (Uttaranchal). 
 
The Basketball team of the college won Gold Medal in University Level Basketball championship in Chandigarh on 31-01-2011.
 
The Yoga team of the college won Gold Medal in University Level Yoga Championship in Chandigarh on 12-02-2011. Priyanka Rani won individual Gold Medal in this event.
 
Intra Sadan Sports Competitions were organized at college premises under the supervision of Ms. Simple Kamboj during the 3rd week of February.
 
The Volleyball team of the college won Silver University Level Volleyball Championship in Chandigarh on 24-02-2011.
 
43rd Annual Athletic Meet was organized in the college on 5th March, 2011. Sh. Varinder Brar (SP, Abohar) and Sh. Parkash Singh Bhatti (Ex.MLA, Balluana) was the distinguished guest of this athletic meet.
 
     INTER COLLEGE SKILL IN TEACHING & ON THE SPOT PREPARATION OF TEACHING AIDS      COMPETITIONS

With the financial support of UGC, a Career and Counseling Cell (CCC) was inaugurated on 17-01-2010. The cell has been established to provide career guidance and placement assistance to college students. The various activities that were organized by CCC are as under:

 
Career and Counseling Cell organized a workshop on ‘Developing Human Strengths- New Horizons ‘on 17-01-2011. The guest speaker of the workshop was Prof.(Dr.) M.R.Chilana ( Ex Field Advisor, NCERT, New Delhi).
 
Career and Counseling Cell organized an extension lecture on ‘Teacher Effectiveness’ on 04-02-2011. The guest speaker of the workshop was Sh. Munish Sharma (Principal, Army School, Abohar).
 
Career and Counseling Cell organized an extension lecture on ‘Stress Management’ on 19-02-2011. The guest speaker of the extension lecture was Dr. S.C.Gakhar (Former Chairperson, Deptt. Of Education, Panjab University, Chandigarh)
 
Career and Counseling Cell organized an extension lecture on ‘Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation’ on 28-02-2011. The guest speaker of the extension lecture Mrs. Kusum Khunger (Principal, LRS DAV Senior Secondary School, Abohar).
 
 
     ACTIVITIES OF OTHER ASSOCIATIONS
Hindi Parishad celebrated ‘Hindi Divas’ on 14th September in the college by organizing a poem recitation competition.
 
Home science club conducted a workshop on ‘Home management’ on 23-09-2010 in which 60 students participated.
 
Eco Club of the college celebrated Ozone Day on 16th September, 2010. On this occasion, poster making and slogan writing competition was organized on the theme ‘Dream of Eco-friendly Earth’ and ‘Save Earth’.
 
Planning Forum celebrated the birthday of great revolutionary S.Bhagat Singh on 28th September, 2010.  College students delivered patriotic speeches and poems to mark the occasion.
 
A UGC sponsored National Seminar on the theme ‘Special Education- Fighting for Space was organized in the college. ………………………………………College Principal and convener of the seminar Dr. (Mrs.) Venita Singh presented the vote of thanks.
 
Dharam Shiskha Pariksha was organized by the Sanskrit Association under the guidance of Dr. (Mrs.) Urmil Sethi. 115 students participated in the this event.
 
A workshop for teachers on the theme ‘Knowledge Commission and its recommendations’ was organized. The resource person of the workshop was Dr. M.R.Chilana (Ex Field Advisor, NCERT, New Delhi).
 
Punjabi Sahitya Sabha organized the Lohri Festival in the college premises. College Principal, faculty members and students of M.Ed , B.Ed and ETT attended the function.
 
History Association under the guidance of Mrs. Shelly Chaabra organized Intra College Quiz Competition on the occasion of Martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi.
 
Department of Computer Science organized an workshop on Internet Literacy’ on 24-25 January, 2011.
 
Punjabi Sahitya Sabha and Department of Computer Science organized an workshop on ‘Empowering Education with ICT’. Prof. C.P.Kamboj was the resource person of this workshop.
 
Intra College Skill in Teaching and on the spot preparation of teaching aid competition was organized on 01-02-2011. About 120 students participated in this competition.
 
Fine Arts and Home Science Department organized ‘Fevicryl Workshop ‘from 02-02-2011 to 05-02-2011.
 
Panjab University Zonal Level Skill in Teaching and on the spot preparation of teaching aids competition was organized in the college premises in the subjects of Social Studies, History, Political Science, Geography and Physical Education on 15-02-2011. 90 students of 16 colleges of education participated in the competition. Dr. Gurdeep Kumar Sharma ( Senator and Principal G.G.D.S.D.College, Hariana, Hoshiarpur was the observer and chief guest on this occasion.
 
Fine Arts Department of the college organized as Arts Exhibition in ETT Department in which the students displayed various hand- made articles. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. (Mrs.) Parminder Sharma ( Principal, Bhag Singh Hayer Khalsa College for Women, Kala Tibba, Abohar) in the presence of college principal Dr. (Mrs.) Venita Singh.
 
A Mathematics Resource Center was inaugurated on 19-02-2011 by Dr. S.C.Gakhar ( Former Chairperson, Education Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh).
 
Science Association organized a workshop on the theme ‘Activity based teaching in science’ on 21-02-2011. Sh. Avinash Garg , A science teacher from Edward Ganj D.A.V.School, Malout was the resource person of this workshop.
 
The College organized an educational trip cum Picnic for students to Pushpa Gujral Science City, Kapurthala under the guidance of Sadan Coordinator and Science Maths Association. 110 students and 4 faculty members were part of this activity.
 
M.Ed Students of the College paid a visit to Tapovan ( A School for the Blinds) and Jagdamba Andhvidyalaya ( A school for Deaf and Dumb) on February 26th, 2011 under the supervision of Dr. Vijay Grover and Ms. Gurpreet Kaur.
 
Science Asociation celebrated National Science Day on 28th February, 2011 in the college premises. Dr. B.B.Sharma (Principal, D.A.V.College, Abohar) was the chief guest on this occasion. Science Exhibition, Science Quiz, Extempore Speech Contest science games were the highlights of the event.
 
 A National Seminar on the theme ‘Recent Trends in Contemporary Educational Psychology’ was organized in the college in collaboration with College Development Council, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof(Dr.) M.R.Chilana (Ex Field Advisor, NCERT, New Delhi), Prof. (Dr.) K.N.Chowdhary (Head, Clinical Psychology, CMC, Ludhiana), Dr. S.S.Sangha ( Dean, Faculty of Education, P.U.Chd.), Dr. Tarlok Bandhu ( Senator, P.U.Chd.) were distinguished speakers on this occasion. College Principal and convener of the seminar Dr. (Mrs.) Venita Singh presented the vote of thanks.
 
     INTER COLLEGE COMPETITIONS
The college quiz team comprises of Sheenu, Reetu and Parminderjeet won the Inter College Quiz Contest held at Bhag Singh Hayer Khalsa College for Women, Kala Tibba ( Abohar) on 21-01-2011. It is a matter of proud that the college has won the running trophy for the 3rd consecutive time and this trophy has now been permanently given to our college.
